North Korea’s Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui met with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin on Monday to strengthen the growing North Korea-Russia relationship, state media reported on Tuesday. The meeting focused on expanding cooperation between the two nations as global attention intensifies over their deepening military and political ties.
According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Choe Son Hui and Vladimir Putin discussed “many future projects to constantly strengthen and develop” their bilateral relationship. The North Korean minister also delivered Kim Jong Un’s warm and brotherly greetings to the Russian president, underlining the close personal and political bond between the two leaders.
The North Korea-Russia meeting comes at a critical moment as both countries face heavy international sanctions and diplomatic isolation. Experts suggest the meeting highlights an emerging strategic partnership between North Korea and Russia, with both nations seeking mutual support in military, economic, and political spheres.
Recent reports indicate that North Korea is supplying Russia with soldiers, artillery, and ammunition for its ongoing war in Ukraine. In return, Moscow is believed to be providing advanced military technology and defense support to Pyongyang. Western governments have expressed concern that this growing alliance could destabilize global security and strengthen both nations’ military capabilities.
During her visit, Choe Son Hui also met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov for high-level strategic discussions. Both sides reportedly reached “full agreement” on major global issues and reaffirmed their shared stance on international security. North Korea expressed support for Russia’s “measures to remove the root of the Ukraine conflict,” while Russia reaffirmed its backing for North Korea’s right to defend its sovereignty and national interests.
The North Korea-Russia alliance continues to evolve rapidly, reflecting a shared determination to resist Western influence and expand their global influence. Analysts note that both nations are leveraging each other’s strengths — Pyongyang’s military manpower and Moscow’s technological and diplomatic clout — to counterbalance Western powers.
This latest North Korea-Russia meeting demonstrates how both countries are redefining their partnership amid global scrutiny. As tensions rise in Eastern Europe and East Asia, the strengthening bond between Moscow and Pyongyang could reshape future geopolitical dynamics, signaling a new phase of cooperation between two long-time allies.
