Pakistan has significantly intensified health screening measures for people entering the country following the confirmation of two Nipah virus cases in India. Health authorities have placed immigration officials, airport staff, and border security teams on high alert, instructing them to closely monitor incoming travelers for any symptoms associated with the deadly infection.
Special screening desks have been activated at major international airports and land border crossings, where passengers are being checked for fever, breathing difficulties, and neurological symptoms such as confusion or seizures. Travelers displaying any signs of illness are being referred for immediate medical assessment and, if necessary, isolated to prevent potential transmission.
The decision comes amid rising regional concern, as several Asian countries take precautionary steps to guard against the possible spread of the virus. Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam have also tightened health checks at airports and other entry points, introducing enhanced surveillance measures and stricter monitoring of international arrivals.
Health officials have described the expanded screening as a preventive strategy aimed at early detection, stressing that the Nipah virus carries a high fatality rate and has previously caused outbreaks in parts of South and Southeast Asia. Medical facilities across Pakistan have been advised to remain prepared, with isolation wards and emergency response teams placed on standby.
Authorities said coordination between health departments, immigration services, and border agencies has been strengthened to ensure a rapid response in case of any suspected infections. Public health teams are also maintaining regular communication with regional counterparts to track developments and share information related to the virus.
Officials have urged the public to stay informed but calm, emphasizing that no Nipah cases have been detected in Pakistan so far. They stressed the importance of cooperation with screening procedures and early reporting of symptoms to help prevent any cross-border spread of the virus.
