Lahore: Pakistan Women’s cricket team ended their three-match ODI series against South Africa on a high note, securing a convincing six-wicket win in the third and final match. Although South Africa lifted the series 2-1, Pakistan’s dominant performance in the last game has boosted their confidence ahead of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, which starts on September 30.
The standout performer for Pakistan was 27-year-old Nashra Sundhu, who recorded her career-best bowling figures of 6/26, earning the Player of the Match award. Her performance now ranks as the second-best in Pakistan Women’s ODI history, only behind Sajjida Shah’s 7/4 against Japan in 2003.
After winning the toss, South Africa batted first but struggled against early breakthroughs by Diana Baig and Omaima Sohail, who removed both openers, Laura Wolvaardt and Karabo Meso, in the opening overs. Sundhu then dominated the middle and lower order, dismissing Sune Luus and other key batters, restricting the visitors to 115 all out.
In response, Pakistan chased the target comfortably, reaching the total in just 31 overs. Sidra Amin played another crucial innings, scoring 50 runs and finishing the series as the leading run-getter, following her back-to-back centuries in the first two ODIs.
The series victory, although short of winning the trophy, provides Pakistan Women with momentum as they head into the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. Pakistan will start their campaign against Bangladesh on October 2 in Colombo, while South Africa will face England the next day in Guwahati. Both teams will also feature in warm-up matches beginning September 25.
The third ODI showcased Pakistan’s bowling strength, teamwork, and batting depth, giving fans hope for strong performances in the upcoming World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
