Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned 76 on Thursday, September 17, with leaders from across the political spectrum extending birthday greetings and referring to his 25-year journey in public office.

Modi, who was born on September 17, 1950, in Vadnagar, Gujarat, will complete 25 years as a head of government on October 7, 2026. He first took oath as the Chief Minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001, before becoming Prime Minister of India in 2014.

President Murmu Highlights Governance and Inclusive Development

President Droupadi Murmu wished Modi a long and healthy life and highlighted what she described as his contribution to governance and development.

In her birthday message, Murmu said Modi had established several new benchmarks in good governance during his terms as Gujarat Chief Minister and Prime Minister. She also said his tenure had given fresh momentum and direction to inclusive development.

Murmu said India was witnessing a combination of modern development and cultural heritage. She expressed the hope that Modi would continue his work in public service and nation-building.

Amit Shah Recalls Modi’s Journey in Public Life

Union Home Minister Amit Shah described Modi’s public life as a journey marked by hard work, sacrifice and long-term commitment to national service.

Shah referred to Modi’s rise from an ordinary BJP volunteer to Gujarat Chief Minister and later Prime Minister, saying the journey demonstrated how difficult goals could be pursued when national service remained the central objective.

He also wished Modi good health and a long life and said he hoped India would continue progressing towards the goal of becoming a developed country by 2047.

Vice President Links Modi’s Tenure to India’s Economic Growth

Vice President C P Radhakrishnan said India had emerged as one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies under Modi’s leadership.

Radhakrishnan pointed to developments in digital technology, space, healthcare, infrastructure and manufacturing. He also said more than 25 crore Indians had moved out of extreme poverty.

He highlighted the terms “Aspirational Districts”, “Vibrant and First Villages” and “Ashtalakshmi” for the North-East, saying these reflected an approach focused on transforming geographical marginalisation into empowerment.

Radhakrishnan added that his travels across states and Union Territories had allowed him to see what he described as these changes reaching even remote parts of the country.

Om Birla Mentions India’s Global Identity and Development

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said India was building a new identity on the global stage under Modi’s leadership.

Birla referred to progress in areas including development, self-reliance, innovation, digital technology, infrastructure and public welfare. He also said Modi’s more than 25 years in public life had contributed to democratic values and the upliftment of vulnerable and underprivileged sections.

Chandrababu Naidu Highlights Modi’s Political Journey

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu also greeted Modi on his birthday.

Naidu referred to Modi’s journey from Gujarat Chief Minister to Prime Minister and said his 25 years in public service had given a new momentum to India’s growth story.

He also referred to Modi’s vision of “Seva, Sankalp, and Sushasan” and wished him a long and healthy life.

Congress Leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge Extend Wishes

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also extended birthday greetings to the Prime Minister.

Kharge wished Modi good health and a long life. Gandhi also posted a birthday message wishing the Prime Minister good health and a long life.

JD(U) chief and former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also conveyed his greetings and wished Modi a healthy and long life.

BJP President Nitin Nabin Praises Modi’s Public Service

BJP president Nitin Nabin described Modi’s journey as one centred on dedication and service to the nation.

Nabin said Modi’s approach of putting “Nation First” had shaped his public life and described his journey in terms of service, governance and public welfare.

He also said that under Modi’s guidance, India was progressing in development and self-reliance and gaining a renewed position on the global stage.

Eknath Shinde Calls Modi a Symbol of India’s Progress

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde described Modi as a symbol of India’s progress and the aspirations of its people.

Shinde said Modi represented welfare for the poor, the aspirations of the younger generation and the country’s efforts to overcome challenges. He also linked Modi with what he called the idea of a “New India”.

H D Deve Gowda Sends Birthday Wishes

Former Prime Minister and JD(S) chief H D Deve Gowda conveyed his birthday wishes to Modi through a letter.

Deve Gowda wished the Prime Minister a long and healthy life and expressed the hope that Modi would continue to lead the country with dedication and wisdom while helping India realise its potential and strengthen its position in the world.

Modi’s 25-Year Public Life Milestone

The birthday comes ahead of another major milestone in Modi’s public career. He will complete 25 years as a head of government on October 7, 2026, marking 25 years since he first took oath as Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001. His political journey later took him to the office of Prime Minister in 2014.

The milestone has been highlighted by leaders from both the BJP and opposition parties in their messages marking his 76th birthday.
