Music composer Shashwat Sachdev reflects on a pivotal moment in his career as he collaborates with Oscar-winning composers Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard for the upcoming British crime series Virdee.
On this experience, Shashwat expressed, “Some partnerships feel destined. When the intent is pure, the right individuals come together. This journey is founded on honesty, curiosity, and profound respect for Hans and James.”
Renowned for his work in Uri: The Surgical Strike and the recent web series *The Ba**s of Bollywood*, Shashwat is crafting the title theme for the television series Virdee, which follows detective Staz Nair as he seeks a killer targeting the Asian community in Bradford.
Shashwat shared insights into his creative journey, stating, “My sound embodies a touch of Rajasthan dust, a hint of Mumbai rain, and an abundance of emotion. When this essence intertwines with cinema, something genuine unfolds. You do not pursue these moments; they come to you when you are prepared. Music, I’ve discovered, resides in the space between ego and silence—that’s where true magic exists.”
The composer views this collaboration as a cross-cultural experience brimming with emotion and insights. “From Mumbai to Los Angeles, the heartbeat remains unchanged. This partnership was marked by humility, pride, and soulfulness in one breath—a confirmation that music is not merely created but remembered,” he noted.
Identifying as “a gypsy soul wandering through cultures and nations,” Shashwat remarked, “Collaborating with Hans and James opened the doors to an extraordinarily beautiful world.”
Virdee, adapted by A A Dhand from his own crime novels set in Bradford, boasts a predominantly British-Asian cast and delves into themes of identity, justice, and community.
This initiative signifies a significant crossover for Shashwat Sachdev, merging his Indian musical heritage with global cinematic narratives.
Hans Zimmer, known for landmark scores such as Inception and The Dark Knight, has previously teamed up with Indian musicians and is also set to collaborate with A R Rahman for Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming two-part epic, Ramayana.
Through Virdee, Shashwat Sachdev continues to broaden his international presence, symbolizing the increasing connection between Indian creativity and world cinema.
