Taiwan’s defence ministry has affirmed that its military forces are fully prepared to respond swiftly to any sudden attack from China, with all units capable of operating under a decentralised command system without waiting for orders from higher authorities. In a detailed report presented to Taiwanese lawmakers, the ministry emphasized that this structure allows Taiwan’s armed forces to react immediately, ensuring a robust defence against potential threats.
Taiwan, a democratically governed island, has long been at the centre of rising tensions with Beijing, which regards Taiwan as part of its territory. The report highlighted concerns that China could attempt to rapidly escalate its regular military drills into actual combat operations, aiming to catch Taiwan and its international allies off guard. The ministry stressed that Taiwan’s forces are trained for rapid decision-making and independent action, enhancing their readiness to protect the island’s sovereignty.
Taiwan’s preparation includes extensive planning, regular exercises, and advanced operational protocols that allow troops to respond effectively even if communication with central command is disrupted. The government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a strong defence posture, ensuring the safety of its citizens and reinforcing its stance on deterring any potential aggression from China.
This announcement comes amid heightened regional security concerns, as the South China Sea and Taiwan Strait remain focal points of geopolitical tension. Analysts note that Taiwan’s emphasis on decentralised command and rapid-response capabilities underscores the strategic importance of military readiness in the face of increasing Chinese military assertiveness.
Taiwan’s defence ministry concluded that these measures are crucial to safeguarding national security, maintaining stability in the region, and deterring any sudden Chinese military actions. The report serves as a clear message to both domestic audiences and international partners that Taiwan remains vigilant and prepared to defend itself.
