Thailand Reviews SME Funding and Development Plans

Post by : Shakul

Thailand's Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Ms. Tasanee Muangkaew, attended the second meeting of the Committee for the Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in 2026. She represented the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives at the important government meeting held at Government House in Bangkok.

Meeting Focuses on SME Development

The session was chaired by Ms. Banjongjit Angsusin, Advisor to the Minister of Commerce. Officials gathered to review policies and strategies aimed at supporting micro, small and medium-sized enterprises across Thailand and improving their competitiveness in a changing economic environment.

Reports on MSME Performance Presented

During the meeting, committee members received updates on the current situation of micro, small and medium enterprises. Reports highlighted the performance of SMEs, current challenges facing business operators and progress made through government support programmes.

Budget and Fund Utilisation Reviewed

The committee also examined reports regarding the receipt and disbursement of funds under the Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion Fund. Officials reviewed financial management practices and assessed how resources were being allocated to support business development initiatives.

Oversight Committees Share Findings

Updates were presented by the Sub-committee on Monitoring and Evaluating Budget Expenditure, internal auditors of the Office of Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion (OSMEP), and other oversight bodies. These reports focused on transparency, accountability and risk management measures within SME programmes.

New Funding Allocation Considered

A key agenda item involved the allocation of remaining funds from the SME Promotion Fund. The committee discussed how available resources could be used to strengthen SME development projects, administrative operations and legal support for related government agencies.

Government Aims to Strengthen SME Growth

The meeting also considered appointing a subcommittee responsible for screening future agenda items of the SME Promotion Committee. Officials said the move would help ensure that policies and support measures are implemented effectively, allowing SMEs to remain resilient and competitive under current economic conditions.
