Trump and Macron's Long Handshake Goes Viral at Gaza Peace Summit

Trump and Macron's Long Handshake Goes Viral at Gaza Peace Summit

Post by : Rameen Ariff

US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron shared a long, unusual handshake at the Gaza peace summit in Egypt, bringing back memories of their famously awkward interaction in 2017. The handshake lasted 27 seconds, during which both leaders posed for photos, tugged each other’s arms, and changed grips multiple times.

The handshake quickly went viral on social media, with many users joking that the two leaders were engaged in a playful “arm wrestling” match. Clips showed Trump drawing Macron in for the handshake, with both presidents placing a hand on each other’s upper arm for photos. The interaction escalated into a tugging contest before Macron eventually freed himself and left the stage.

Social media reactions highlighted the unusual display. One user wrote, "Trump defeated Macron in a political arm wrestling. I knew he could take Macron, that is child's play." Another commented, "Trump and Macron had an arm wrestling match. Their meeting took place at the summit in Cairo on Gaza."

The 2025 handshake echoes their 2017 encounter, when Trump and Macron locked hands for 29 seconds, neither showing a sign of weakness. Over the years, their relationship has often featured enthusiastic and sometimes awkward handshakes, attracting attention from global observers.

Macron’s visit to Egypt on Monday was part of his effort to support a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, backed by Trump. The visit comes at a crucial time, as international leaders work to stabilize the region and promote long-term peace.
