The US government under President Donald Trump has decided to bring back many ambassadors who were appointed during the previous administration. This move is part of a wider plan to change how the United States works with other countries.
According to officials, nearly 30 senior diplomats have been told that their work as ambassadors will end in January. These diplomats were posted in different countries around the world and were informed about the decision last week.
All of them started their roles during the earlier government but were allowed to continue when President Trump began his second term. However, that changed this week when they received official messages asking them to prepare to leave their posts.
Ambassadors are senior officials who represent the president in other countries. Usually, they stay in their roles for three to four years. But they serve at the president’s choice, and the president has the power to replace them at any time.
Officials clarified that those affected are not being fired from government service. They will return to the United States and may be given other jobs if they choose to continue working.
The government said this decision is part of a normal process that happens when a new administration wants its own team in place. It added that ambassadors must fully support the president’s goals and policies.
Africa is the region most affected by this change. Ambassadors from 13 African countries are being recalled. These include Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Mauritius, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, and Uganda.
Asia is the second most affected region. Ambassadors from six countries in Asia are being asked to return. These countries are Fiji, Laos, the Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, and Vietnam.
In Europe, four countries are impacted. These are Armenia, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Slovakia.
Two countries each are affected in other regions as well. In the Middle East, Algeria and Egypt are included. In South and Central Asia, Nepal and Sri Lanka are on the list. In the Western Hemisphere, Guatemala and Suriname are affected.
Some lawmakers and diplomats have raised concerns about the large number of recalls. They worry it could affect long-term relations with other countries. However, the administration says the goal is to ensure that US representatives fully support the president’s “America First” policy.
This move shows how President Trump is reshaping US foreign policy in his second term. As Trump recalls Biden-era ambassadors, the focus is on building a diplomatic team that closely follows his vision and priorities.
