Trump Warns Russia-Ukraine Conflict Could Trigger World War III

Trump Warns Russia-Ukraine Conflict Could Trigger World War III

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Washington DC: United States President Donald Trump has expressed growing concern over the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, warning that the prolonged war could escalate into a potential “third world war.” Speaking to reporters at the White House on Friday, Trump highlighted the staggering human cost of the conflict, noting that roughly 25,000 soldiers lost their lives last month alone.

The President voiced his deep frustration over the continued violence and bloodshed, emphasizing the urgent need for a resolution. “I’d like to see the killing stop…for the most part, 25,000 soldiers died last month. I would love to see it stop. And we’re working very hard,” Trump said. He further cautioned that prolonged inaction and ongoing hostilities could spiral into a much larger global conflict. “Things like this end up in third-world wars. We don’t want to see that happen,” he added.

Trump’s remarks reflect his frustration as both Russia and Ukraine remain unwilling to compromise, despite his repeated claims of being able to end the war quickly. The US President, who has often highlighted his desire to mediate a swift resolution, finds himself largely on the sidelines as diplomatic efforts continue to stall.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also commented on Trump’s growing impatience, stating that the President is “extremely frustrated with both Moscow and Kyiv over the slow progress toward a truce.” Leavitt noted that Trump is “tired of meetings that achieve nothing” and is focused on results rather than empty discussions. “The President wants action. He wants this war to come to an end,” she said, underscoring the administration’s continued engagement in peace efforts.

Leavitt confirmed that the US remains actively involved in diplomatic initiatives, with Trump holding talks with European leaders and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and his team engaged in ongoing discussions with both sides “literally as we speak.”

In addition to pushing for a ceasefire, Trump has indicated that the US is willing to provide security assistance to Ukraine as part of a broader peace agreement with Russia. However, he expressed disappointment that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has not immediately agreed to American proposals, which were viewed by some in Kyiv as too accommodating toward Moscow.

The ongoing tensions come as Zelensky recently suggested a referendum in the Donbas region, allowing residents to decide whether the territories should be handed to Russia. Meanwhile, the Kremlin has insisted that Ukraine withdraw its forces from the eastern regions, including Donetsk and Luhansk, which Russia has yet to fully capture after nearly four years of conflict.

Under Trump’s administration, the US has scaled back direct military aid to Ukraine, opting instead to allow NATO allies to purchase American weaponry for Kyiv. This shift in strategy reflects the administration’s focus on balancing support for Ukraine while maintaining pressure for a negotiated settlement.

The Russia-Ukraine conflict continues to dominate global attention, with world leaders closely watching developments. Trump’s warnings underline the high stakes involved, emphasizing the need for urgent diplomacy to prevent the war from spiraling into a wider international crisis.
