Kuala Lumpur: A new round of trade negotiations between the United States and China commenced in Malaysia on Saturday, just ahead of a crucial ASEAN summit and a scheduled meeting between Presidents Xi Jinping and Donald Trump in South Korea next week.
The US Treasury confirmed the meetings are underway, and reports from China’s state media indicate that both delegations have gathered at Merdeka 118, one of the tallest buildings globally. Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng is at the helm of the Chinese delegation, which will engage with senior US officials until Monday.
