US Funeral Home Shock Father Given Son’s Brain Instead of Clothes

US Funeral Home Shock Father Given Son’s Brain Instead of Clothes

Post by : Rameen Ariff

San Jose, California – A shocking incident at a Bay Area funeral home has left a family in distress and led to a lawsuit after a father was mistakenly given his late son’s brain instead of his clothing. Alexander Pinon, 27, passed away on May 19, 2025. His family had hired Lima Family Erickson Memorial Chapel in San Jose for a full-service memorial and had requested that Alexander be dressed in his own clothes for burial, with his personal clothing returned to them.

According to the family’s attorney, Samer Habbas, the family wanted to give Alexander a dignified farewell and ensure everything was handled respectfully. The family had paid over $10,000 for the memorial package. However, during the process, funeral director Anita Singh reportedly handed Alexander’s father a bag, which he took home, thinking it contained his son’s clothing. Instead, the bag contained Alexander’s brain.

The father, unaware of the mix-up, discovered the contents and immediately returned the bag to the funeral home. Habbas explained that the funeral home did not disclose whose brain it was, offer any explanation, or issue an apology. Weeks later, a whistleblower at the funeral home confirmed that the bag indeed contained Alexander’s brain.

Following the confirmation, the funeral home allegedly stored the brain in a box outside in its courtyard for roughly two-and-a-half months. It was only discovered later by an employee, who described the smell as “a rotting human brain.”

Habbas criticised the funeral home’s handling of the incident, stating, “Errors can happen, but what cannot happen is covering up those errors.” When approached for comment, Anita Singh reportedly did not respond to questions about the mix-up.

The lawsuit is currently ongoing, and Alexander Pinon’s family is working to reunite his brain with the rest of his remains. The case has raised serious questions about funeral home practices and the importance of handling human remains with care and transparency.

This disturbing incident highlights the need for strict protocols in funeral services and the responsibility of funeral homes to provide families with accurate and respectful handling of their loved ones.
