Tragic Blaze Claims One Life, Leaves Another Hurt on Vancouver Island

A devastating fire incident on Vancouver Island has resulted in the loss of one life and left another individual suffering from serious injuries, prompting inquiries from local authorities.

Emergency responders, including police and firefighters, were dispatched to a residence in Sooke, near Victoria, early Sunday around 5:21 a.m. Upon arrival, they found the house fully ablaze.

Reports from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) indicate that one person was declared deceased at the scene, while another victim was rescued and taken to a hospital for urgent medical care.

Officials described the event as profoundly troubling. Cpl. Brett Urano characterized it as a “heart-wrenching situation,” extending his sympathy to the victim’s family and community. He recognized the emotional toll such occurrences have on the local area.

Investigators from the RCMP, along with local fire authorities and the BC Coroners Service, are collaborating to ascertain the fire's origins. At this point, there’s no indication of any criminal elements related to the tragedy.

The situation continues to evolve as officials collect evidence and analyze the scene. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to reach out to the local RCMP.
