Since June 2025, nearly 700,000 Afghans have been deported from Iran, as tensions rise between Iran and Israel.
Among the deportees is Habiba, a 31-year-old engineering student who returned to Afghanistan with only her laptop and a few documents—her education and dreams left behind.
Iran claims most of the deportees were undocumented migrants and that 70% left voluntarily.
But returnees and humanitarian agencies disagree, reporting forced removals, mistreatment, and lack of proper procedures.
