To Lam Pays Tribute to Ho Chi Minh in Singapore

To Lam Pays Tribute to Ho Chi Minh in Singapore

Post by : Shakul

Vietnamese General Secretary and President To Lam paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh during his official visit to Singapore, reaffirming Vietnam’s respect for its revolutionary legacy and its commitment to strengthening international partnerships. The ceremony took place on the morning of May 30 at the Asian Civilisations Museum, one of Singapore’s most prominent cultural landmarks.

Accompanied by his wife and a high-level Vietnamese delegation, President To Lam laid a wreath at the statue and memorial plaque dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh. The visit formed part of his state visit to Singapore and his participation in the 23rd Shangri-La Dialogue, one of Asia’s most influential security and diplomatic forums.

During the ceremony, President To Lam and members of the delegation observed a moment of silence to honor the memory of Ho Chi Minh, who is widely regarded as the founding leader of modern Vietnam. The tribute reflected the nation’s continued appreciation for his contributions to independence, national development, and international solidarity.

The statue of President Ho Chi Minh occupies a prominent position within the grounds of the Asian Civilisations Museum, where it stands alongside monuments dedicated to other distinguished Asian leaders and historical figures. The site has become an important symbol of the enduring friendship between Vietnam and Singapore.

The memorial plaque honoring Ho Chi Minh was first inaugurated in May 2008 to commemorate the 118th anniversary of his birth and the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Singapore. The initiative was widely welcomed as a reflection of the growing relationship between the two nations.

Building on that recognition, supporters of Vietnam within Singapore’s heritage community, together with the Vietnamese Embassy and the Ho Chi Minh Museum, proposed the installation of a permanent statue. The statue was officially unveiled in September 2011 and has since become a place of remembrance and cultural significance.

President To Lam’s visit comes at a time when Vietnam and Singapore continue to expand cooperation across economic, security, educational, and cultural sectors. Officials from both countries have highlighted the importance of maintaining strong bilateral ties amid changing regional and global dynamics.

Located along the historic Singapore River, the Asian Civilisations Museum serves as a bridge between cultures and civilizations across Asia. The presence of Ho Chi Minh’s statue at the museum reflects not only his historical influence but also the deepening friendship and mutual respect shared by Vietnam and Singapore.
