Thailand Invites Public for Bodhi Tree Tribute

Thailand Invites Public for Bodhi Tree Tribute

Post by : Shakul

Thailand’s Ministry of Interior has invited Buddhists across the country to participate in a nationwide ceremony honoring the royal Bodhi Tree during Visakha Bucha Day 2026. The event will take place on May 31 and is intended to promote Buddhist traditions while encouraging public unity and spiritual reflection.

According to Interior Ministry Permanent Secretary Arsit Sampanrat, the initiative follows a royal gesture by His Majesty the King, who graciously bestowed the “Phra Sri Maha Bodhi Damasarajabopit” tree to the Ministry of Interior. The sacred Bodhi Tree was distributed to provincial governors across the country and planted to commemorate the King’s birthday anniversary in 2025.

The Bodhi Tree holds deep significance in Buddhism as it symbolizes enlightenment and spiritual wisdom. Authorities believe that the royal Bodhi Tree project serves as a symbol of national prosperity, harmony, and blessings for the Thai people. The initiative also aims to strengthen the connection between local communities and Buddhist heritage.

On the occasion of Visakha Bucha Day, one of the most important events in the Buddhist calendar, His Majesty the King has also graciously provided artificial lotus flower arrangements to be used in ceremonies across the nation. These offerings will be presented as acts of devotion and merit-making at designated Bodhi Tree locations in every province.

Provincial administrations, together with local government agencies and religious organizations, will organize simultaneous ceremonies in all 76 provinces. The events are scheduled to begin at 8:39 PM on May 31, with provincial governors presiding over the official proceedings in their respective regions.

Officials stated that the lotus offering ceremony represents gratitude, faith, and respect toward Buddhist teachings. The event is expected to bring together people from different communities in a shared act of worship while preserving Thailand’s long-standing religious and cultural traditions.

The Ministry of Interior has encouraged citizens nationwide to attend the ceremonies with their families and participate in merit-making activities. Authorities hope the event will strengthen social harmony, promote Buddhist values, and bring blessings and prosperity to individuals, families, and the nation as a whole.
