A snowstorm hit in Northern Pakistan after a glacier collapse

Post by : Shakul

A terrifying natural disaster struck northern Pakistan as a massive section of snow, rock, and mud suddenly broke away from a mountain, sending a powerful avalanche-like surge rushing down into the valley below. The incident has once again raised serious concerns about climate change and the increasing instability of Himalayan glaciers.

Local reports describe the event as a fast-moving wall of ice and debris that swept across steep terrain, leaving residents and travelers shocked by the scale and speed of the collapse. Fortunately, there have been no immediate confirmed reports of mass casualties, but authorities are still assessing damage in remote areas where communication is limited.

Experts warn that such incidents are becoming more frequent due to rising global temperatures. The Himalayan region, often called the “third pole,” contains vast glacier systems that are now melting and weakening at an accelerated pace.

Scientists link these events to glacier retreat and the formation of unstable glacial lakes, which can suddenly burst and trigger catastrophic floods known as Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs). These floods can destroy villages, roads, and infrastructure within minutes.
