Arts, Culture Key to Thriving Cities Nga Kor Ming

Arts, Culture Key to Thriving Cities Nga Kor Ming

Post by : Shakul

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has said that modern cities cannot rely solely on physical infrastructure, emphasizing that arts, culture, and human connection are essential to building thriving and inclusive urban communities.

Speaking at a cultural event in Ipoh, Nga stressed that while the government continues to invest in public infrastructure, affordable housing, and upgraded amenities, true urban success must go beyond bricks and mortar.

He said that a city’s development should not be measured only by skyscrapers and roads, but also by the happiness, identity, and sense of belonging of its people.

According to him, without cultural and artistic engagement, even the most advanced cities risk becoming emotionally disconnected spaces where residents feel isolated.

Nga highlighted that arts and cultural programmes play a vital role in strengthening unity, compassion, and mutual understanding among Malaysia’s diverse population.

He added that music, in particular, serves as a universal language that transcends race, religion, and geography, helping to bridge differences and foster harmony.

The minister also urged Malaysians to embrace diversity as a strength, saying it enhances creativity, resilience, and national progress when people work together in unity.

He made the remarks while officiating the MADANI Philharmonic Musical Concert 2026: A Tune of Friendship and Unity in Harmony held at the RTM Auditorium.

The concert featured performances by multiple orchestras, showcasing collaboration among musicians from different backgrounds in celebration of cultural harmony.

Nga also called on citizens to reject extremism and prejudice, emphasizing that unity and shared values are key to ensuring Malaysia’s continued development and global respect.
