Chicago Protests ICE After Minneapolis Shooting | Justice for Alex Pretti Rally

Post by : Meena Ariff

Hundreds of protesters gathered in Chicago to demonstrate against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following the fatal shooting of ICU nurse Alex Pretti by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis. The rally was driven by anger and grief, as demonstrators demanded justice for Pretti and called for an end to what they describe as aggressive and dangerous immigration enforcement practices. Protesters say the incident reflects deeper issues surrounding the use of force by federal agencies operating in cities across the country.

Despite freezing temperatures, Chicago activists, community members, and local leaders showed up in large numbers, holding signs, chanting slogans, and honoring Pretti’s memory. Many described him as a dedicated healthcare worker who spent his life caring for others, making his death even more painful for the community. Speakers at the rally emphasized the need for accountability, transparency, and independent investigations into the actions of federal agents involved in the shooting.

The protest also highlighted growing national outrage over immigration raids and enforcement operations carried out in urban areas. Demonstrators urged city and state leaders to take steps to limit the presence of ICE and Border Patrol in local communities, arguing that such operations create fear, mistrust, and unnecessary violence. The Chicago rally is part of a broader movement spreading across the country, with activists demanding reforms to immigration policies and enforcement methods to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
