Hundreds of Iranian-Canadians and supporters took to the streets of Vancouver in January 2026 to express solidarity with widespread anti-government protests inside Iran. Demonstrators gathered near the Vancouver Art Gallery, waving flags, holding banners, and chanting slogans demanding freedom, justice, and human rights. The protest aimed to condemn the Islamic Republic’s violent crackdown on civilians, amid reports of thousands killed during the unrest and widespread communication blackouts that have left families abroad desperate for news of their loved ones.
The rally in Vancouver was part of a larger wave of demonstrations organized by the international Iranian diaspora, with similar gatherings reported in major cities across Canada, the United States, Europe, and beyond. Protesters called for global attention to the situation in Iran, demanding accountability for human rights abuses and urging the international community to take action against the regime. Many participants shared personal stories of relatives trapped in conflict zones, highlighting the human cost of the ongoing political turmoil.
Speakers at the Vancouver rally emphasized the need for persistent advocacy and international solidarity, stressing that global pressure is critical to prevent further violence against civilians in Iran. Organizers also highlighted the role of social media in spreading awareness despite government-imposed communication blackouts. The protest ended peacefully, with participants pledging to continue raising their voices until human rights are respected and justice is served for those affected by the crisis in Iran.
