Pakistan Navy carried out a rare humanitarian rescue mission in the Arabian Sea after an Indian cargo vessel, MV Gautam, reportedly suffered a major technical failure while travelling from Oman to India. The emergency operation began after Mumbai’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre sent an SOS request seeking immediate assistance for the stranded vessel. Reports said the crew included six Indian nationals and one Indonesian citizen.
Pakistan Navy quickly deployed naval ship Kashmir to the affected area and provided emergency food supplies, medical aid and technical support to stabilise the vessel. Rescue teams worked under difficult sea conditions to ensure the safety of the stranded crew members. Maritime experts said the mission highlighted the importance of humanitarian cooperation at sea, where protecting lives remains the top priority despite political tensions between neighbouring countries.
The incident has drawn attention across the region because the Arabian Sea is one of the world’s busiest and most sensitive shipping routes. Thousands of commercial vessels pass through the area every year carrying oil, goods and industrial supplies between Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Officials and maritime observers praised the rescue effort, saying it demonstrated the importance of international cooperation and rapid emergency response during maritime crises.
