Thailand has intensified its nationwide campaign against drug trafficking and narcotics abuse as the government moves forward with a comprehensive anti-drug strategy under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. Officials said the government is combining prevention, suppression, rehabilitation and strict law enforcement measures to tackle the growing drug problem across the country.
According to government spokesperson Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, the anti-drug campaign has now become one of the government’s highest priority agendas. Authorities are also encouraging public participation through the Narcotics Suppression Bureau hotline 1386, allowing citizens to report suspicious activities and assist in monitoring drug-related crimes in their communities.
Government data released for the first six months of fiscal year 2026 showed major progress in anti-drug operations nationwide. Officials reported that more than 150,000 drug-related cases were prosecuted during the period. Authorities also seized over 796 million methamphetamine pills and nearly 25 tons of crystal methamphetamine during nationwide enforcement operations.
Security agencies further revealed that 139 major drug trafficking networks were dismantled as part of coordinated crackdowns across multiple regions. In addition, authorities seized and froze assets worth more than 9,156 million baht linked to suspected drug trafficking activities and criminal organisations.
Alongside enforcement operations, the government is also focusing heavily on treatment and rehabilitation efforts for drug users. Officials said more than 79,000 people suffering from drug addiction have already entered treatment programmes aimed at helping them recover and reintegrate into society.
Authorities added that rehabilitation and awareness programmes have also reached more than 4.5 million young people across Thailand. These initiatives are designed to educate youth about the dangers of narcotics and prevent long-term involvement in drug-related activities.
The government has also strengthened transnational cooperation to tackle cross-border drug trafficking. Officials explained that intelligence-sharing operations and coordination between security agencies have been expanded, particularly in border areas where trafficking activities remain a major concern.
Cooperation between Thailand and Laos has reportedly led to the arrest of more than 40 targeted suspects involved in transnational drug trafficking operations. Authorities described the joint operations as an important success in disrupting smuggling routes and weakening organised criminal networks along border regions.
Government officials said the anti-drug campaign will continue with stronger enforcement, international cooperation and expanded rehabilitation programmes. Authorities stressed that tackling the narcotics problem requires long-term cooperation between security agencies, local communities and international partners.
