Massive flooding has been reported across parts of eastern China after intense rainfall battered Jiangsu Province and surrounding regions. Viral videos circulating on social media showed roads completely submerged, vehicles trapped in deep water, and traffic coming to a standstill as heavy rain continued for hours.
One of the worst-hit areas was Donghai County in Jiangsu Province, where floodwater covered major streets and disrupted normal life. Residents were seen struggling to move through flooded roads while emergency teams responded to waterlogged areas and transport disruptions.
Chinese authorities have issued flood and severe weather alerts in multiple provinces as torrential rain continues to impact urban and rural areas. Officials warned that more heavy rainfall could trigger further flooding, landslides, and infrastructure damage in vulnerable regions.
Videos from the affected areas showed cars partially underwater, buses moving slowly through flooded streets, and rescue personnel assisting stranded residents. In several locations, drainage systems reportedly failed to handle the sudden volume of rainwater.
The ongoing weather conditions have also disrupted transportation services and daily activities across eastern China. Authorities are closely monitoring rivers, reservoirs, and low-lying districts as emergency teams remain on standby for possible evacuations and rescue operations.
China regularly faces severe flooding during periods of extreme seasonal rainfall, especially in densely populated urban areas where heavy storms can overwhelm drainage infrastructure within a short period of time. Meteorological agencies continue tracking the storm system as rainfall spreads across additional provinces.
Experts say climate-related extreme weather events, including intense rainfall and flash floods, are becoming increasingly frequent across many parts of Asia. Local governments have urged residents to avoid flooded roads and follow official safety advisories during the ongoing weather emergency.
Emergency response operations are continuing as authorities work to restore transportation routes, clear flooded streets, and assist affected residents across the region.
