Massive rallies marking the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution were held across Iran, with the largest gatherings seen in Tehran and other major cities. The annual event commemorates the 1979 overthrow of the Shah and remains one of the country’s most significant national observances.
During the state-organised procession, a symbolic moment drew widespread attention when demonstrators set fire to a statue representing Baal. The effigy was adorned with imagery associated with the United States and Israel, including a Star of David, and was burned amid loud chants and slogans from the crowd.
Footage from the rallies showed participants waving flags, marching in large numbers, and expressing revolutionary pride alongside strong anti-Israel and anti-Western sentiment. The act of burning the statue was presented by participants as a symbolic rejection of foreign influence and opposition to perceived adversaries.
The Islamic Revolution anniversary is observed every year with rallies, speeches, and displays organised by the state and supported by various groups. It serves both as a commemoration of the historic 1979 uprising and as a platform for political messaging reflecting Iran’s current ideological stance.
Despite the intense symbolism, officials have not indicated any change in policy linked to the demonstrations. The event continues to function as a major national gathering that blends historical remembrance with contemporary political expression.
