A terrifying incident unfolded at the popular Gudauri ski resort in Georgia’s Caucasus Mountains when a chairlift malfunction sent winter tourists into panic. The lift, which was carrying skiers and snowboarders up the snowy slopes, suddenly began moving backwards at high speed, catching riders completely off guard. As the chairs rapidly accelerated downhill, many passengers were forced to make split-second decisions, with several jumping off the lift in an attempt to escape serious injury.

Shocking videos shared online show chairlift seats violently smashing into one another at the bottom station, creating a chaotic and dangerous scene. In some clips, riders can be seen losing balance and being flung from their seats as the lift continued to move uncontrollably. Screams and confusion filled the air as resort staff and bystanders rushed to help those who had fallen.

According to local authorities, at least 8 to 11 people were injured in the incident, including foreign tourists visiting the resort. The injured were quickly transported to nearby hospitals, where they received medical treatment. While most injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening, the incident left many shaken and raised serious concerns about safety procedures at the resort.

Officials temporarily shut down the chairlift following the accident and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the malfunction. The Gudauri ski resort, a major winter tourism destination, said it was cooperating fully with authorities as safety inspections and reviews were carried out.
