A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 struck off the coast of Oregon in the United States on Thursday night. The quake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), making it potentially noticeable in nearby areas.
Authorities have not reported any damage or injuries so far. Emergency teams are monitoring the situation closely to ensure public safety. Residents along the coast have been advised to stay alert and follow any guidance from local authorities.
The National Tsunami Warning Center, which is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, confirmed that no tsunami warnings were issued following the quake.
This offshore region near the Oregon–California border lies along the Cascadia Subduction Zone, a tectonically active area where earthquakes happen frequently. Most of these earthquakes occur under the ocean and are not strongly felt on land. However, stronger quakes, like the recent one, can be felt across the Pacific Northwest coast.
Scientists continue to study the quake and track seismic activity in the region to better understand its impact and to prepare for any future events.
