The ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon 2024 secured the Bronze Award in the 'Fan Solution' category at the Leaders Sports Awards 2024 in London, earning international recognition for its advances in spectator engagement and community participation.
Organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council in partnership with ADNOC, the marathon brought together over 33,000 runners from around the world — from elite competitors to recreational athletes and families — across events ranging from the full marathon to community fun runs. The turnout reinforced the event's reputation as a major fixture on the global running calendar.
Innovation, sustainability and inclusivity were central to this year’s edition. Event managers introduced measures to reduce single-use plastics, monitored and sought to lower the marathon's carbon footprint, and applied sustainable event-management practices. Community outreach was expanded through school programmes and interactive social campaigns designed to encourage healthy lifestyles.
Talal Mustafa Al Hashemi, Executive Director of Events Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said the award recognises the joint efforts of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, ADNOC and partners, and reflects their ongoing commitment to staging a world-class sporting event that combines athletic excellence, community engagement and environmental responsibility.
Winning Bronze at the Leaders Sports Awards strengthens Abu Dhabi’s standing on the international sports stage and highlights the UAE’s focus on promoting fitness, innovation and inclusive experiences for fans and participants alike.
