Amazon will channel €1.4 billion ($1.63 billion) into its Netherlands operations across the next three years, marking a significant regional investment. The company says the funds will be used to advance artificial intelligence capabilities aimed at helping merchants improve product discovery, streamline logistics and deepen customer engagement.
The firm currently employs about 1,000 people in the Netherlands. Despite its global scale, Amazon remains behind national e-retailer Bol.com, part of Ahold Delhaize. Analysts interpret the new funding as an effort to narrow that gap and grow Amazon’s presence in the Dutch e-commerce market.
Amazon intends to split the investment between technological development and operational growth, with AI singled out as a central focus. Eva Faic, Amazon’s head for Belgium and the Netherlands, said the company is committed to equipping local entrepreneurs with smarter, more efficient selling tools.
Earlier, Amazon revealed a $1.16 billion investment in Belgium, underlining a wider push in the Benelux region. Observers view these moves as part of Amazon’s broader strategy to reinforce its European operations while responding to competition from entrenched local players.
Through these investments, Amazon signals a long-term commitment to the Dutch market, aiming to blend innovation with expansion and potentially change how domestic sellers engage with global e-commerce platforms.
