After much anticipation regarding the female lead for Shakti Shalini, a new offering from the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU), the wait is finally over. The filmmakers have confirmed that Aneet Padda, acclaimed for her performance in Saiyaara, will take on the lead role.
This revelation was made during a grand unveiling of the Shakti Shalini teaser, which debuted in cinemas alongside Thamma, the eagerly awaited Diwali film featuring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
Ayushmann Welcomes Aneet to the Maddock Family
Adding to the excitement, Ayushmann Khurrana took to Instagram with an enthusiastic welcome for Aneet. He shared,
“Welcome to the MHCU, @aneetpadda... Here comes a fellow Punjabi! Keep pursuing your dreams; nothing is unattainable. Proud to support our Punjabi talent. Cannot wait to witness your brilliance in Shakti Shalini! Let’s go, Aneet!”
Ayushmann’s message reflected the tight-knit nature of the Maddock family while showcasing the increasing influence of Punjabi talent in mainstream Bollywood.
Alongside welcoming Aneet, Ayushmann expressed his joy concerning Thamma being his first film to hit theaters during Diwali. He noted that achieving a festival release was a long-held aspiration.
“I was ecstatic when my producer Dinesh Vijan announced the Diwali release for Thamma, a dream I've held for my career,” he explained.
He remarked,
“Thamma is a pivotal film in my career, and I’m fortunate to have it premiere during Diwali. I always attended theater releases for major films with my family, and this time, I’m presenting my own! It’s incredible!”
Directed by Amar Kaushik, Thamma joins the MHCU lineup and has already generated a lot of buzz for its mix of supernatural themes and comedy—a hallmark of the Maddock films launched with Stree and Bhediya.
Amar Kaushik, who has directed prominent titles like Stree and Bala, discussed his choice to cast Aneet Padda in Shakti Shalini. He emphasized their search for a fresh, expressive talent who could masterfully jive with the project’s balance of fear and humor.
“Aneet possesses a magnetic screen presence and energy that complements the essence of Shakti Shalini. We needed someone who could instill fear yet encourage laughter during chaos. After seeing her in Saiyaara, we were convinced she was the one,” Kaushik stated.
He also teased that Shakti Shalini will showcase a strong female-centric narrative, contributing a novel layer to the evolving Maddock Horror Comedy Universe.
Shakti Shalini represents the next evolution in Dinesh Vijan’s MHCU—an interconnected universe of supernatural narratives intertwined with humor and Indian folklore.
Beginning with Stree (2018) and followed by Roohi (2021) and Bhediya (2022), each entry has expanded the universe's narrative arc, paving the way for potential future crossovers.
This latest installment introduces a dynamic female lead and promises a storyline rich in empowerment and comedy, infused with Maddock’s signature flair.
Industry experts suggest that Aneet’s character may have ties to characters from earlier films within the universe, although specific plot points remain confidential.
Aneet Padda emerged as a rising star following her role in Saiyaara, captivating audiences with her emotional depth and strong screen presence. Her debut into the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe is anticipated to mark a significant milestone in her career.
With her roots in Punjabi entertainment, Aneet embodies a new generation of talented, multilingual artists making waves across Indian cinema. Fans and critics are eager to see how she brings her unique charisma to the horror-comedy genre.
As Ayushmann Khurrana’s Diwali release, Thamma, draws audiences and Aneet Padda steps into Shakti Shalini, Maddock Films further cements its role as a frontrunner in India’s horror-comedy landscape.
As the audience waits in anticipation, Shakti Shalini is poised to emerge as a thrilling blend of laughter and fright—a film that could redefine the interplay between horror and humor in Indian cinema.
