Two firefighters from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) suffered burn injuries while carrying out a rescue operation during a flat fire at Clementi on Friday night, July 31, 2026. The firefighters were responding to a blaze at Block 309, Clementi Avenue 4, after SCDF received an emergency alert at around 11.10pm. Upon reaching the location, emergency crews discovered that the living room of an eighth-floor residential unit had been completely engulfed by flames. The incident triggered a swift response from firefighters, who forced their way into the burning apartment to control the situation and search for people inside the unit.
During the firefighting operation, SCDF personnel found a person trapped inside the kitchen area of the flat. The individual was successfully rescued and later transported to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital for medical attention. Firefighters deployed two water jets to contain and extinguish the fire, which involved household items located in the living room. Their quick response helped prevent the blaze from spreading further within the residential block.
SCDF confirmed that two firefighters sustained burn injuries while carrying out the rescue mission. Both were taken to Singapore General Hospital for treatment following the incident. The emergency service agency said the injuries occurred during the operation as firefighters worked to save the trapped resident and bring the fire under control.
As a precautionary measure, around 40 residents from the affected block were evacuated by police officers and SCDF personnel while firefighting and safety checks were carried out. Authorities ensured that residents were moved away from the affected area to reduce risks from smoke, flames and possible fire-related hazards. Emergency teams remained at the scene until the situation was brought under control.

The quick actions of the firefighters helped rescue the trapped individual and prevent further harm during the late-night emergency.
