Thailand's Deputy Minister of Transport, Saraphet Bunyamanee, has ordered an immediate safety inspection after a floating pontoon collapsed near the pier of Thai Central Chemical Company. Authorities are also accelerating the search for one missing person while reviewing the condition of nearby pier structures.
Marine Department Ordered to Inspect Nearby Piers
The Deputy Minister instructed the Marine Department to conduct detailed inspections of the affected pier as well as at least one pier located on both the northern and southern sides of the accident site. Officials will examine whether the collapse caused any structural damage and ensure all facilities comply with international safety standards.
Why Are Authorities Conducting New Inspections?
The inspections are intended to determine whether the pontoon collapse weakened surrounding infrastructure or created additional safety risks. Authorities said the review will help prevent future accidents and strengthen public confidence in Thailand's port facilities.
No Dangerous Gas Pipelines in the Area
Officials confirmed that there are no hazardous gas pipelines near the accident site, easing concerns about possible explosions or environmental hazards. The government emphasized that public safety remains the highest priority during the ongoing rescue and inspection operations.

Search Continues for Missing Person
A joint rescue operation is underway with the Ruam Katanyu Foundation deploying ten rescuers and divers to search for the missing individual. Two people injured in the incident have been admitted to Paolo Phra Pradaeng Hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.
What Does This Incident Mean?
The pontoon collapse has prompted Thai authorities to strengthen inspections of maritime infrastructure across the area. The incident highlights the growing importance of regular safety audits, emergency preparedness and infrastructure maintenance to protect workers, nearby communities and commercial port operations.
