Dakota Johnson Takes the Director's Seat for A Tree is Blue

Post by : Meena Ariff

Dakota Johnson, recognized for her role in Materialists, is poised to make her official directorial debut with A Tree is Blue. The film, penned by and reportedly featuring her Cha Cha Real Smooth co-star Vanessa Burghardt, is set to start filming next month in Los Angeles.

Though specific plot details remain undisclosed, excitement is growing regarding the cast. British artist Charli XCX and Hollywood favorite Jessica Alba are currently in talks to join this intriguing project.

Having previously directed the short film Loser Baby, which premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, Johnson starred alongside Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal in Materialists. She is also slated to appear in the upcoming Colleen Hoover adaptation, Verity, alongside Anne Hathaway.

Jessica Alba, who recently served as producer and lead in Netflix's Trigger Warning, is next slated to appear in the biographical sports film Maserati: The Brothers, sharing the screen with heavyweights like Anthony Hopkins, Andy Garcia, and Al Pacino. Meanwhile, Charli XCX, a Grammy-winning artist, will not only star but also produce The Moment, and she has contributed music to the upcoming adaptation of Wuthering Heights featuring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.

With a diverse mix of established names and rising talents, Johnson's inaugural directorial feature is becoming one of the most awaited films of the upcoming year.
