Renowned tennis player Novak Djokovic has declared that he will not participate in this year’s Paris Masters. At 38, he took to social media platform X to share nostalgic thoughts on his notable achievements at the tournament, which include a remarkable seven titles, yet refrained from disclosing his reasons for skipping the event.
In his message, Djokovic stated, “Dear Paris, Unfortunately I’ll not compete at this year’s Rolex Paris Masters. I have amazing memories and great success over the years, especially being able to conquer the title 7 times. Hope to see you next year. Merci.” His post conveyed a mix of appreciation and sadness at missing a tournament that holds great significance in his career.
Just last week, Djokovic participated in the Six Kings Slam in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, a prestigious exhibition match featuring six leading male players. After receiving a bye in his opening match, he faced defeat at the hands of eventual champion Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals. He was set to compete for third place against Taylor Fritz but withdrew after the first set due to unexplained complications.
Before the Riyadh event, Djokovic also took part in the Shanghai Masters in China, where he suffered a leg injury that may have affected his readiness for upcoming competitions. Even with the injury, he managed to reach the semi-finals in Shanghai, demonstrating his competitive spirit.
This season has seen Djokovic in only eight ATP Tour events outside the four Grand Slams, reaching the semi-finals in each of the major tournaments including the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and U.S. Open. From late May to late September, these were the sole competitions he entered, highlighting a deliberate choice in his schedule.
The 2025 Paris Masters is scheduled from October 27 to November 2, and will host esteemed players such as World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz and No.2 Jannik Sinner. Djokovic's absence opens opportunities for other athletes to vie for the coveted Masters 1000 title. Following this tournament, the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy, are slated for November 9-16, marking the conclusion of a year-long competitive journey for top players.
Djokovic's record at the Paris Masters has been outstanding, with seven titles that have significantly contributed to his legacy. His decision to skip this year’s event represents a significant shift, as both fans and experts had anticipated his participation to potentially bolster his ATP rankings before the Finals.
While he offered no explicit reasons for skipping the Paris Masters, Djokovic's announcement invites fans to reflect on his impressive career at the tournament. All eyes will now be on Alcaraz, Sinner, and other elite competitors heading to Paris, with Djokovic poised to return in forthcoming events. His choice highlights the meticulous management of his schedule as he balances recovery, fitness, and the drive for competitive success.
