Dubai Airports has entered the winter months with one of its most robust travel networks, welcoming a surge of airlines and expanding routes at both Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC).
Direct flights maintain dominance at DXB, making up 55% of passenger traffic. This seasonal boom is driven by favorable weather, international business, festive events, and holiday journeys, along with the city’s appeal as a favored destination for global explorers.
Growth Led by Europe and Central Asia
European routes are experiencing a notable uplift this season. FlyArystan has initiated bi-weekly flights from Aktau in Kazakhstan, while Austrian Airlines has resumed five weekly services from Vienna. Major carriers such as Virgin Atlantic and British Airways have increased capacity on vital routes, indicating strong confidence from the European market.
Strong Regional Links
South Asia and the Middle East continue to be crucial players. Varesh Airline has begun services from Sari, Iran, and Fly Jinnah is now operating from Lahore, reflecting a solid point-to-point traffic within the area. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia, DXB’s second-largest market, generated 6.3 million passengers across both DXB and DWC, with DWC showcasing a remarkable growth of 459% this season.
Growing Importance of Dubai World Central
DWC is increasingly bolstering DXB, providing airlines with additional capacity and catering to the rising demand from CIS, GCC, and European markets. In the first ten months, passenger numbers surged to 1.1 million, underscoring its strategic significance in Dubai’s aviation scene. Both cargo and aircraft movements at DWC are also climbing, suggesting ongoing growth.
The upcoming winter schedule highlights the airlines' confidence in Dubai’s varied travel demands, reinforcing its position as a central player in global aviation. With fresh flights and enhanced connectivity, Dubai Airports are poised to cater to increasing passenger expectations during the festive season.
