In Abu Dhabi, six promising creatives from the UAE recently engaged in a remarkable opportunity, immersing themselves in the production of Lionsgate’s acclaimed film Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. They acquired hands-on experience in vital departments like camera, wardrobe, production, and location management, gaining insight into the dynamic realm of international filmmaking.
This film, which debuted as the top movie globally and grossed $147.5 million worldwide, provided interns with a unique view of professional workflows and industry benchmarks. Their involvement allowed them to cultivate practical skills, take part in day-to-day production activities, and comprehend the workings of extensive film sets.
Since 2020, the Creative Media Authority (CMA) and Abu Dhabi Film Commission (ADFC) have successfully coordinated over 300 internships across more than 100 local and global productions. More than half of these participants are Emirati nationals, with 19 gaining experience in countries such as Romania, Egypt, Australia, Canada, Bulgaria, Hungary, Malta, and the United States. Additionally, over 40 former interns have become active contributors to Abu Dhabi’s burgeoning film and media sector, demonstrating the lasting influence of such initiatives.
Participants have shared that the experience has been life-changing. Production intern Bushra Wasim remarked, “This has broadened my perspective of the industry and clarified my career aspirations.” Costume intern Sheikha Al Junaibi noted, “The real on-set exposure, from fittings to styling, is unparalleled. I’m extremely grateful to CMA for this chance.”
Through initiatives like these, CMA and ADFC are dedicated to fostering local talent, providing practical training and mentorship while advancing the UAE’s ambition for a vibrant cultural and creative sector.
