Recently, the Emergencies, Crises and Disasters Management Centre Abu Dhabi (ADCMC) engaged in a significant visit to the Finnish National Rescue Association (SPEK) to gain insights into Finland's innovative emergency response systems. The goal of this trip was to foster cooperation and exchange knowledge, ultimately improving Abu Dhabi's ability to manage emergencies.
The delegation, led by Dr. Abdulla Hamarain Al Dhaheri, Executive Director of the Response and Recovery Sector at ADCMC, shared their comprehensive strategy for managing crises, showcasing the collaborative efforts of various departments involved during significant events in Abu Dhabi.
SPEK provided valuable insights into Finland’s focus on community preparedness, the readiness of institutions, advanced training programs, and practical exercises designed to enhance the efficiency of responders. They discussed vital aspects such as volunteer programs, civil readiness, and the well-known concept of 72-hour preparedness, which encourages families to be self-sufficient during emergencies.
Dr. Al Dhaheri remarked that the visit aligns with the Abu Dhabi Government’s vision of strengthening global partnerships in emergency and crisis management. He emphasized that learning from international best practices enables Abu Dhabi to adapt to emerging challenges more effectively and cohesively.
He pointed out that ADCMC is committed to refining its operational techniques by analyzing global models, learning from successful international experiences, and integrating advanced approaches into Abu Dhabi’s emergency management framework. This includes enhancing community engagement, advancing training methodologies, and bolstering institutional capabilities.
This delegation opportunity at SPEK allowed Abu Dhabi officials to explore a unique system that emphasizes technological advancements, strong institutional collaboration, and heightened readiness. Dr. Al Dhaheri noted that Finland’s model offered deep insights into building a connected emergency network that elevates response capabilities.
He also highlighted Abu Dhabi's commitment to aligning its emergency systems with global benchmarks through improved resilience, smart response mechanisms, and collaborative programs that enhance teamwork among emergency bodies. A key goal of ADCMC is to cultivate skilled national talent dedicated to safety and sustainable development.
The Finnish delegation left an impressive mark on the Abu Dhabi team due to their emphasis on inclusiveness, public education, and streamlined communication among agencies. SPEK illustrated the crucial support role played by emergency volunteers alongside professional teams during large-scale crises.
The visit wrapped up with discussions on future collaborations, such as joint training programs, technology sharing, and cooperative studies aimed at strengthening preparedness. Both parties acknowledged that ongoing partnerships will fortify community safety and resilience.
Such visits aid ADCMC in reinforcing its global alliances and adopting the best emergency management practices available. The cooperative experience between Abu Dhabi and Finland is anticipated to enhance crisis response, boost operational effectiveness, and foster a secure, ready society.
