Fujairah F3 Power Plant Begins Full Commercial Operations

Fujairah F3 Power Plant Begins Full Commercial Operations

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Abu Dhabi and Fujairah mark a significant step in energy development as the Fujairah F3 Independent Power Producer (IPP) project officially enters full commercial operations. The 2.4-gigawatt gas-fired facility, located in Qidfa, is among the UAE’s largest and most efficient power plants.

Capable of supplying electricity to around 380,000 homes, the plant not only ensures reliable power but also supports the integration of renewable energy into the national grid. Fujairah F3 utilizes advanced JAC-class gas turbines from Mitsubishi Power in a combined cycle configuration, offering high thermal efficiency and low emissions.

The project was developed under the IPP model, with Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA) holding a 40 percent stake. Marubeni Corporation owns 20.4 percent, Mubadala Investment Company 20 percent, and Hokuriku Electric Power Company 19.6 percent. Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) serves as the sole electricity procurer through a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

Fujairah F3 is designed to meet rising electricity demand while providing flexible support for intermittent renewable sources. Its advanced technology enables quick ramp-up during peak demand and maintains a low emissions profile, aligning with the UAE’s long-term energy transition goals.

The plant strengthens national energy security and plays a key role in creating a more sustainable electricity mix. By combining high-efficiency generation with flexibility, Fujairah F3 helps the UAE balance traditional and renewable energy sources, ensuring reliable and clean power for the future.
