Samsung has expanded its health toolkit with the Galaxy Watch 8, introducing an antioxidant index designed to make clinical-style health data accessible to everyday users. The company says the new metric will translate complex lab information into practical guidance for daily wellness.
Historically measured in medical settings to evaluate oxidative stress, the antioxidant index has not been widely available outside laboratories. With the Watch 8, Samsung aims to put that measurement on a wrist-worn device so users can better understand how diet and lifestyle affect their internal biology.
The feature relies on a blend of advanced sensors and analytics to generate a clear, user-facing reading of antioxidant status alongside Samsung’s existing health metrics. The resulting insight is intended to help people fine-tune nutrition choices, plan healthier meals, and adopt routines that support long-term wellbeing.
Work on this capability began in 2018 as Samsung sought to narrow the gap between clinical testing and consumer wearables. While some experts urge caution about treating consumer devices as substitutes for medical diagnostics, Samsung and early observers suggest the index could be a useful tool for raising everyday health awareness.
Samsung expects the Galaxy Watch 8 to be the first model to ship with the new antioxidant index, with the possibility of extending partial support to prior models through software updates. The move underscores Samsung’s push to broaden health features on wearables and intensifies competition with rivals such as Apple.
