West Dulwich, London – A cafe owner in south London is facing the threat of closing her business after more than 50 burglaries over the past four years have left her financially strained. Stephanie Morgan, who opened her cafe, Stephanie’s, in 2021, has become a victim of repeated thefts, with criminals stealing everything from alcohol and ice cream to furniture.
Despite taking extensive security measures, including installing multiple CCTV cameras, the break-ins have continued. On several occasions, thieves have deliberately cut power to the cameras or avoided being recorded. The most recent incidents occurred on September 16 and 18, with large amounts of stock stolen yet again.
Stephanie revealed to the Metro that the financial losses caused by these repeated burglaries have reached tens of thousands of pounds. “It’s been a nightmare. Our cafe is near a park, and they are getting over the fence. Recently, they hit us twice in two weeks, stealing alcohol. We have been burgled around 50 times in the past four years. They steal anything – food, drink, and even furniture. Once they emptied a fridge of Magnums,” she said.

The cafe owner explained that most thieves are opportunists, taking advantage of gaps in CCTV coverage near the park gates and West Dulwich station to escape without being caught. The repeated attacks have caused severe damage to her cafe, forcing Stephanie to seek community support.
To keep her business running, Stephanie has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the damages caused by the thefts. She admitted that the continuous losses make it extremely difficult to sustain her cafe. “They have trashed the place so many times. It’s difficult to go on – we are regularly losing our stock. I just can’t afford this,” she added.
Stephanie has built up a loyal customer base since opening her cafe, but every morning she fears finding the cafe vandalized or burglarized again. The ongoing series of thefts highlights the challenges small businesses face in dealing with persistent crime, even when security measures are in place.
The situation in West Dulwich has drawn attention to the impact of repeated burglaries on local businesses and the urgent need for better community security measures to protect small enterprises.
