Mumbai Surgeon Highlights Dangers of Stress Contrasting with Smoking and Drinking

Mumbai Surgeon Highlights Dangers of Stress Contrasting with Smoking and Drinking

Post by : Saif Rahman

Stress is a familiar term in our daily conversations, yet many overlook its potentially fatal consequences. Dr. Manan Vora, a prominent orthopaedic surgeon based in Mumbai, cautions that unmanaged stress can damage the body more swiftly than smoking or alcohol consumption. While society often fears the effects of tobacco and alcohol, he stresses that the covert threat of unchecked stress can be far more detrimental.

Dr. Vora asserts that stress transcends mere mental concerns; it impacts the entire body. Feelings of being overwhelmed, sad, or fatigued trigger the release of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. Although these hormones serve a purpose in emergencies, prolonged exposure can wreak havoc on various organs and overall health.

He points out several indicators of stress that individuals frequently dismiss — including persistent back pain, headaches, muscle tension, tightness in the shoulders, and teeth grinding. Often, individuals attribute these signs to fatigue or job pressures, missing the underlying message that their body is under stress.

According to Dr. Vora, insufficient sleep exacerbates the issue. Without the recommended seven to eight hours of restful sleep, the body struggles to recover from previous stressors. Each day compounds the stress, leading to chronic conditions that could affect heart health, immune function, and even longevity.

Sleep, Dr. Vora emphasizes, is crucial for bodily repair. During deep rest, stress hormones decrease, muscles relax, and cellular repair occurs. Skipping sleep places the body in a state of continuous stress, making it significantly more harmful over time.

His central message is unequivocal: the ramifications of stress should not be minimized. While risks associated with smoking and drinking are widely recognized, the insidious nature of stress has far-reaching implications for health. A focus on mental wellness, adequate sleep, and attentiveness to bodily signals can help mitigate severe, long-term effects.

This article draws from social media insights, and its assertions have not been independently verified. Nonetheless, the importance of acknowledging stress's impact on both daily living and long-term health is vital.
