New Zealand have announced a 16-member squad for their upcoming home series against India, with experienced fast bowler Adam Milne and spin-bowling all-rounder Michael Bracewell returning to the team after missing the recent T20 World Cup because of injuries. The biggest setback for the hosts is the absence of Rachin Ravindra, who has been ruled out of the India T20 series after suffering a shoulder injury. The all-rounder is expected to recover in time to be considered for the one-day international matches that will follow the T20 fixtures. New Zealand will host India across a lengthy home tour featuring five Twenty20 internationals, five one-day internationals and two Test matches. The opening T20 is scheduled to take place in Christchurch on October 22.
Adam Milne and Michael Bracewell have been included in the squad after injury prevented both players from being part of New Zealand's T20 World Cup campaign. Their return gives the hosts additional experience and depth as they prepare for a demanding series against India. Milne provides another pace option for the New Zealand attack, while Bracewell offers value as a player capable of contributing with both bat and ball. Their availability also gives coach Rob Walter greater flexibility when managing the workload of the squad across the five-match series.
Rachin Ravindra will miss the Rachin Ravindra injury setback after dislocating his right shoulder during a promotional shoot last week. The injury means New Zealand will have to make adjustments to their combination for the opening part of the India tour. Ravindra has become an important all-round option for the side, contributing in both batting and bowling. Although he will not feature in the T20 matches, New Zealand expect him to be available for the ODI portion of the tour, subject to his recovery. His absence is therefore expected to be temporary rather than a withdrawal from the entire India tour.
New Zealand have retained 13 members of the squad that finished runners-up to India at this year's T20 World Cup. The continuity provides the side with a familiar core ahead of another meeting with India. The two teams will now face each other again in New Zealand, with the upcoming series offering both sides another opportunity to build combinations and assess players ahead of future international assignments. The return of Milne and Bracewell adds further depth to a group that already contains several established international players.
New Zealand's opening combination will also attract attention, with Tim Seifert and Finn Allen set to play together again. The pair last featured together during New Zealand's run to the T20 World Cup final. Their reunion gives the team another established option at the top of the batting order. Finn Allen is known for his aggressive approach in the powerplay, while Seifert brings experience in the shortest format. Their combination could therefore play an important role in New Zealand's plans during the five-match series.
Fast bowler Ben Sears was not available for selection as he continues his rehabilitation from an ankle injury. His absence leaves New Zealand without another pace option, although the selectors have retained a strong group of fast bowlers. The squad includes Milne, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes and Nathan Smith, giving the team several options for different conditions.
New Zealand coach Rob Walter said the team has considerable depth and indicated that the coaching staff intends to use the full squad during the series. With five T20 matches scheduled, workload management will be an important consideration for the hosts. Walter said the team was fortunate to have enough depth to call upon and would look to involve all 16 squad members while managing workloads throughout the series. The approach could allow New Zealand to rotate players depending on fitness, form and match conditions.
The New Zealand vs India tour will extend beyond the T20 format. The two sides will first meet in five T20 internationals, beginning in Christchurch on October 22. The teams will then contest five ODIs before finishing the tour with two Test matches. The long schedule means player management could become an important factor, particularly for players involved across multiple formats. For New Zealand, the early T20 matches will provide an opportunity to assess their squad following the changes caused by injuries to Ravindra and Sears.

New Zealand's 16-member squad is:
Mitchell Santner (captain), Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Lockie Ferguson, Zak Foulkes, Matt Henry, Bevon Jacobs, Kyle Jamieson, Adam Milne, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Tim Seifert and Nathan Smith.
The squad contains a mixture of experienced international players and younger options, with several players capable of contributing in more than one discipline.
Ravindra's absence is one of the main talking points ahead of the series because of his ability to contribute as an all-rounder. His left-handed batting gives New Zealand variety in their lineup, while his spin bowling provides the team with an additional option during the middle overs. With Ravindra unavailable for the T20 matches, New Zealand have several players who can help cover the roles he normally performs. The final combination will depend on conditions and the team's tactical approach.
The upcoming India vs New Zealand T20 series will bring the two teams together again after their meeting at this year's T20 World Cup. New Zealand's decision to retain most of their World Cup squad suggests continuity will be an important part of their preparation. At the same time, the return of Milne and Bracewell changes the balance of the team, while Ravindra's injury creates a notable gap. With the first match scheduled for October 22 in Christchurch, attention will now turn to player fitness, final combinations and how both teams approach the opening game.
