A Pakistani-born American citizen, 25-year-old Luqmaan Khan, has been arrested in the United States for allegedly planning a mass shooting at the University of Delaware. Authorities discovered an alarming cache of firearms, ammunition, body armour, and a detailed manifesto outlining his plans to “kill all” and achieve “martyrdom,” the US Department of Justice (DoJ) reported.
Khan, who has lived in the US since his youth, was taken into custody on November 24 after police spotted him parked in a public park after hours. A search of his pickup truck revealed a .357 calibre Glock handgun loaded with 27 rounds fitted into a microplastic conversion kit, which turned it into a semi-automatic rifle. Officers also recovered three additional loaded magazines, a Glock 9mm magazine, a ballistic vest, and a marble composition notebook containing detailed attack plans.
In the handwritten notebook, Khan elaborated on additional weapons, methods of carrying out an attack, and strategies to evade law enforcement detection. The notebook even referenced a member of the University of Delaware Police Department by name and included a building layout showing entry and exit points labelled “UD Police Station.” ABC 6 reported that the notebook repeatedly used phrases like “kill all” and “martyrdom,” with authorities describing the content as “premeditated assault plans” and clear “warfare techniques.”
The exact motive behind Khan’s alleged plan remains unclear, though he reportedly told police that becoming a martyr was “one of the greatest things you can do.” Following the arrest, the FBI conducted a raid at Khan’s Wilmington residence, seizing an AR-style rifle with a red-dot scope, a second Glock pistol modified into a fully automatic weapon capable of firing 1,200 rounds per minute, eleven extended magazines, hollow-point bullets, and another bulletproof vest. None of the firearms in his possession were registered.
On November 26, Khan was formally charged with illegal possession of a machine gun and remains in custody as federal authorities continue their investigation. Law enforcement officials have stressed the seriousness of the case, highlighting both the scale of weapons he amassed and the detailed planning of the alleged attack.
This arrest has raised concerns about campus safety and the growing threat of armed attacks in the United States, emphasizing the importance of proactive law enforcement and monitoring of potential threats.
