Upgrading works at Taman Persekutuan Lembah Kiara in Taman Tun Dr Ismail are nearing completion, with authorities confirming that the park is expected to reopen by June. The project has reached approximately 98 percent completion and is currently awaiting final handover from the contractor.
Officials clarified that a recent retaining wall collapse and mudflow incident at Jalan Abang Haji Openg will not impact the park upgrade timeline. The incident was linked to a separate development project within the Bukit Kiara Federal Park administrative zone and not the main park area.
According to the National Landscape Department, the remaining work primarily involves final touches and pending completion of specific components before the site can be officially handed over. Once this process is complete, a one-month observation period will be conducted before reopening the park to the public.
The project had initially faced delays due to the contractor’s inability to complete certain tasks within the revised deadlines. Key pending works included pond desilting and related improvements, which were not delivered on schedule despite multiple extensions.
As a result of the delays, authorities have imposed liquidated damages on the contractor, amounting to approximately RM1,200 per day. The total penalty has reached around RM76,000 so far, highlighting the seriousness of the delays in project execution.
The Drainage and Irrigation Department has now instructed the contractor to complete all remaining works by the end of April. Once completed, the upgraded park will undergo safety and quality checks during the observation period.
The RM6 million upgrade project, which began in July 2024, includes major improvements such as stream restoration, pond rehabilitation, sediment basin upgrades, and repairs to railings and lighting systems. These upgrades are aimed at enhancing the park’s environmental sustainability and visitor experience.
Currently, only sections of the park unaffected by the construction remain open to the public. Authorities have assured that the full reopening will provide improved facilities and a safer environment for visitors.
