Paridhi Sharma Steps into Cinema with Haq Inspired by Shah Bano Case

Paridhi Sharma Steps into Cinema with Haq Inspired by Shah Bano Case

Post by : Meena Ariff

Renowned actor Paridhi Sharma, famous for her roles in hit TV series like Jodha Akbar and Patiala Babes, is all set to debut on the big screen next month with the film Haq. According to Paridhi, this leap from television to cinema signifies “a significant transition,” highlighting a new era in her illustrious 15-year tenure in the entertainment realm.

Interestingly, Haq draws inspiration from genuine events in Paridhi’s hometown of Indore, particularly the notable Shah Bano case of the 1980s. “When I got involved with the film, I discovered it was rooted in the Shah Bano case from my hometown. I was already familiar with it,” Paridhi recounted.

However, the film is currently embroiled in legal dilemmas. The daughter of the late Shah Bano Begum has sent a legal notice to the filmmakers and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), seeking an immediate halt to its release. In light of the situation, Paridhi remarked, “We inhabit a democracy; objections to certain themes are inevitable, particularly for films based on real incidents. This was expected because the film is grounded in historical fact, and interpretations can vary widely. During production, we remained dedicated to presenting the story authentically. I believe there’s room for dialogue; please view it first before forming an opinion.”

In Haq, Paridhi plays the role of Iram, the sister of Emraan Hashmi’s character. She describes her portrayal as embodying “a woman from an era steeped in patriarchy,” illustrating the stark contrast between traditional societal ideals and contemporary viewpoints.

Paridhi’s transition from television to film has been both thoughtful and nuanced. After a stretch on the small screen, she intentionally took a hiatus of over three years to undergo a process of unlearning and re-training aimed at cinema. “After my long tenure in television, I recognized the need for transformation, thus my decision to pause and undergo training and workshops, ultimately leading to this film opportunity,” she shared.

In addition to her film debut, Paridhi announced that she is set to commence work on yet another project in Kashmir alongside actor Rajeev Khandelwal.

With her inaugural film facing both critical attention and legal scrutiny, audiences are eager to witness Paridhi Sharma's entrance into the film industry, channeling her television expertise and commitment into a narrative deeply rooted in real-life events.
