Qatar's Commitment to Gaza Ceasefire and Ongoing Peace Initiatives

Qatar's Commitment to Gaza Ceasefire and Ongoing Peace Initiatives

Post by : Maya Rahman

Dr. Majed Mohammed Al Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that Qatar remains dedicated to ensuring the stability of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. He emphasized during the weekly media briefing that Qatar is actively monitoring the execution of the agreement via the Joint Monitoring Room in Cairo, collaborating with various mediation partners.

Dr. Al Ansari expressed concern over reported violations of the ceasefire, which are being taken very seriously by Qatar. He noted that monitoring teams are diligently observing these breaches to maintain the integrity of the ceasefire. Though no new developments have been shared, he mentioned ongoing communication between all stakeholders aimed at progressing to the next phase of the agreement. He also acknowledged supportive remarks from U.S. officials urging the continuation of the ceasefire.

He reiterated Qatar's steadfast efforts in conjunction with international partners, expressing confidence in the U.S. President's plan and applauding the stance taken by the U.S. to bolster peace initiatives. Dr. Al Ansari warned that continuing violations could jeopardize the ceasefire and regional tranquility, a concern that Qatar shares with its mediation partners.

Highlighting Qatar's role in mediating discussions between Venezuela and the United States, he cited involvement in a recent hostage exchange. He underscored that Qatar remains alert to the situation and is prepared to assist in fostering dialogue between both nations.

On the plight of journalists in Gaza, he acknowledged their suffering during the conflict, stressing that the loss of reporters hampers the world's understanding of the situation. Qatar consistently advocates for the protection of journalists and opposes any form of targeting.

He noted that the forthcoming GCC Summit in Manama will address several pressing regional challenges, particularly regarding the security landscape faced by Gulf nations. Regarding Qatar's involvement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, he mentioned that Qatar has been proactive in mediation efforts and has successfully reunited over 115 affected children with their families.

Dr. Al Ansari also highlighted recent high-level diplomatic meetings led by Qatar, which focused on cooperation, humanitarian aid, and regional coordination. He concluded by reaffirming Qatar's commitment to resolving conflicts through peaceful dialogue.
