A powerful explosion rocked Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, Pakistan, on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in a tragic loss of life and widespread panic. The blast occurred near the Frontier Constabulary (FC) Headquarters on Zarghun Road, one of the city’s busy areas, killing at least 13 people and injuring 32 others. According to local reports, the explosion was caused by a vehicle loaded with explosives turning from Model Town towards Hali Road, close to the FC headquarters. The intensity of the blast shattered windows in nearby homes and buildings and was heard across adjoining areas, sending residents into fear and chaos.
Immediately following the explosion, gunfire was also reported in the area, further increasing panic among locals. Residents shared harrowing accounts of the scene, with many rushing to cover children and seek shelter. CCTV footage that emerged on social media captured the moment the blast hit the crowded road, showing the sheer force and chaos caused by the attack.
Rescue teams, police personnel, and emergency services quickly rushed to the site. Authorities cordoned off the area to carry out a thorough search operation and to prevent further casualties. Hospitals across Quetta were placed on high alert, and a state of emergency was declared to manage the influx of injured victims. The Civil Hospital and Trauma Centre received 32 injured individuals for immediate treatment, while many victims were stabilized or taken for further medical care.
Balochistan Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar provided details on the casualties, confirming that five people died instantly at the scene, while another five succumbed to their injuries during treatment. Later reports indicated that the death toll had increased to 13. Among the casualties, at least two FC personnel were reported injured due to the blast and subsequent gunfire, highlighting the risks faced by security forces in such attacks.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine the cause, nature, and perpetrators of the explosion. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Special Operations Quetta, Muhammad Baloch, confirmed that the vehicle involved was explosive-laden, and investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible. The incident has raised serious concerns regarding security around sensitive government and law enforcement installations in Quetta.
The attack has caused widespread fear and disruption in the city, highlighting ongoing security challenges in Balochistan. Local authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid crowded or sensitive areas while investigations continue. Emergency services, including police and medical teams, continue to monitor the situation and provide support to victims and their families.
This tragic incident underscores the pressing need for enhanced security measures, improved intelligence coordination, and rapid emergency response mechanisms to prevent such attacks and protect civilians and law enforcement personnel in Quetta and across Balochistan.
