Bollywood singer and composer Sachin Sanghvi, noted as one half of the renowned music pair Sachin-Jigar, was detained on Thursday, October 23, following a sexual assault allegation. The complaint asserts that Sanghvi offered a woman a role in an upcoming music project and reportedly proposed marriage before the alleged assault.
The accuser, a woman in her twenties, stated that Sanghvi first reached out to her via Instagram messages in February of the previous year. He purportedly promised her involvement in his music endeavor and exchanged phone numbers for further communication.
The complainant claimed she was invited to Sanghvi's music studio, where, according to her testimony, he proposed marriage and allegedly assaulted her multiple times. The case is currently being pursued under specific sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
In light of these allegations, Sachin Sanghvi’s attorney, Aditya Mithe, firmly denied any wrongdoing. Speaking to reporters, Mithe stated, “The FIR against my client is completely unfounded and has no basis. There are no merits to this case.” He further claimed that Sanghvi’s detention by law enforcement was unlawful, leading to his immediate release on bail. The intention is to thoroughly contest all allegations made.
As of now, Sachin Sanghvi has not released any public comments on the situation. His official Instagram account, @soulfulsachin, has been taken down. Furthermore, his musical partner Jigar has refrained from making any statements regarding the incident.
Sachin-Jigar are recognized as one of Bollywood’s most sought-after composer duos, celebrated for creating numerous chart-topping hits. Their recent works include the music for the Diwali film Thamma, starring Rashmika Mandanna and Ayushmann Khurrana. Previously, their composition for Stree 2, especially the song “Aaj Ki Raat,” gained significant acclaim from both audiences and critics.
This arrest occurs amid heightened scrutiny within the Indian film industry concerning issues of consent and harassment, exposing challenges for aspiring artists who enter the field seeking opportunities but may become susceptible to exploitation.
Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is actively ongoing, with further legal developments anticipated in the weeks to come. Meanwhile, this case has ignited discussions across various social media channels, with both fans and industry members expressing their shock and concern regarding the allegations.
As the legal proceedings advance, emphasis remains on ensuring a comprehensive and fair investigation while upholding the rights of all individuals involved.
