Sheikh Nahyan Champions Tolerance Walk in UAE

Sheikh Nahyan Champions Tolerance Walk in UAE

Post by : Maya Rahman

The United Arab Emirates has once again reaffirmed its dedication to harmony through the captivating “Tolerance Walk to Mars.” This event was spearheaded by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, as approximately 3,000 individuals from various UAE communities participated, expressing their commitment to the principles of acceptance, respect, and unity.

Held at Umm Al Emarat Park in Abu Dhabi, the activity was orchestrated by the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence in partnership with the Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026. This gathering formed part of the National Festival of Tolerance's public events, now in its third day, promoting kindness, respect, and a celebration of the nation’s multicultural society.

Sheikh Nahyan was joined by prominent guests, including Zhang Yiming, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, which this year holds the “Guest of Honour” position at the festival. Among other attendees was Sheikh Mohammed bin Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, President of the UAE Rugby Federation, alongside Afra Al Sabri, Director-General of the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence.

Numerous dignitaries, including federal and local officials, religious leaders, cultural figures, and ambassadors from friendly nations, were present as a testament to tolerance's reach throughout various aspects of life in the UAE.

Highlights included Sheikh Nahyan planting a special Chinese tree, reciprocated by Zhang Yiming with a Ghaf tree, representing friendship at the Garden of Tolerance. The ceremony had in attendance Carolin Konther López, the Ambassador of Paraguay to the UAE, symbolizing the strong ties between nations.

Another key moment was the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by Sheikh Nahyan and the Chinese Ambassador for the 10th anniversary of Umm Al Emarat Park, underscoring the park’s mission to foster unity and peace.

During his speech, Sheikh Nahyan emphasized that the Tolerance Walk showcases the UAE’s commitment to these ideals, remarking on the harmonious participation as a “wonderful symphony in all languages and colours.” He commended the Abu Dhabi 2026 Masters Games for promoting sports and healthy living and lauded the spirit of inclusion inherent in the event.

Reflecting on the long journey of tolerance in the UAE, Sheikh Nahyan noted its success in uniting diverse cultures and backgrounds, presenting it as a model for the world. He also honored the foundational values instilled by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, emphasizing tolerance, coexistence, and respect as cornerstones of the UAE’s ethos.

The Tolerance Walk to Mars concluded with a powerful reminder that the UAE remains a sanctuary of peaceful coexistence, celebrating differences and upholding unity. Tolerance here transcends mere terminology; it embodies a cherished way of life.
