Post by : Maya Rahman

In a significant move, His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has announced the appointment of Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Fawzan bin Abdullah Al-Fawzan as the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia. This Royal Order follows an extensive examination of laws, Royal Decrees, and consultations by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince, and Prime Minister, who also serves as the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. Sheikh Al-Fawzan will take on a pivotal role within one of the Kingdom's highest religious offices.

In addition to his new duties as Grand Mufti, Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan assumes the role of Chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars and President of the General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta. Holding ministerial rank, he is set to become a key figure in directing Islamic jurisprudence and scholarly matters in the Kingdom, tasked with issuing fatwas and formulating national religious policies.

This appointment underscores the Kingdom's dedication to maintaining a consistent religious leadership. As Grand Mufti, Sheikh Al-Fawzan’s responsibilities will span the interpretation of Sharia law, providing counsel on religious issues to the government, and facilitating the work of the Council of Senior Scholars. His extensive background and contributions within scholarly circles are expected to fortify the Kingdom's religious institutions, ensuring accurate Islamic guidance.

A seasoned Islamic scholar with years of experience in imparting knowledge, issuing fatwas, and guiding religious studies, Sheikh Al-Fawzan has held numerous academic and advisory positions throughout his career. He is highly regarded for his expert understanding of Sharia law and jurisprudence, with his leadership anticipated to significantly impact religious education and regulation within the Kingdom.

Sheikh Al-Fawzan’s new position will involve oversight of vital components of Saudi Arabia’s religious framework, such as scholarly research and the issuance of fatwas, while maintaining a connection to traditional religious values. His role is particularly critical in addressing modern challenges while ensuring the populace receives sound religious advice.

Endorsed by the Crown Prince, King Salman’s Royal Order emphasizes the confidence placed in Sheikh Al-Fawzan’s expertise. The decision illustrates the collaboration essential for fostering stability and religious adherence within Saudi Arabia.

The elevation of Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan to Grand Mufti signifies a momentous development in the religious governance of the Kingdom. As he guides the Council of Senior Scholars and oversees the issuance of fatwas, his leadership promises to deliver continuity, stability, and profound insight into the Kingdom’s religious landscape. This Royal Order reinforces the significance of religious scholarship in shaping Saudi Arabia’s spiritual and cultural trajectory.
