Sonam Kapoor Joyously Announces Second Pregnancy at 40

Sonam Kapoor Joyously Announces Second Pregnancy at 40

Post by : Saif Rahman

Renowned Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor has revealed she is expecting her second child at the age of 40. The announcement, made on November 20, 2025, has led to an outpouring of congratulations from fans and fellow celebrities, including her husband, Anand Ahuja. The couple is already parents to a three-year-old son, Vayu, who was born in August 2022.

Sonam is following a trend where more celebrities opt to have children in their 40s, with notable figures like Katrina Kaif and Bipasha Basu also embracing this path. Her news has sparked critical discussions around late pregnancies and their implications for mothers and children alike. Experts indicate that while pregnancies categorized as occurring after the age of 35 may come with certain risks, they are now deemed manageable with adequate medical supervision and planning.

Dr. Neelam Suri, a leading consultant in obstetrics at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, highlighted that while late pregnancies may present additional challenges, such instances are rising as women focus on career advancements, financial stability, or personal readiness before family planning. She emphasized that pregnancy at a later stage is becoming increasingly typical, and with informed planning, regular medical assessments, and a healthy lifestyle, many women can achieve positive outcomes for themselves and their children.

Dr. Ila Gupta, chairperson and chief IVF consultant at Pristyn Care Fertility, added that pregnancies after 35 are often marked as “advanced maternal age.” She acknowledged that while fertility and associated risks may increase with age, public sharing of late pregnancies by celebrities can help diminish societal stigma and bolster the normalization of fertility treatments. According to her, these discussions underline the reality that late motherhood is attainable with suitable medical support, even as each woman's health journey is unique.

Experts assert that although pregnancies post-35 may involve a marginally increased risk compared to those in younger age brackets, diligent monitoring, a well-rounded lifestyle, and timely medical interventions can ensure the safety and success of later pregnancies. Sonam Kapoor’s announcement stands as a hopeful reminder that with appropriate support and preparation, women may opt to embrace motherhood later in life without compromising their health.

As Sonam Kapoor gears up to welcome her second bundle of joy, her journey serves as a beacon for many women contemplating late pregnancies, reinforcing the notion that age should not be a barrier when they feel ready to expand their families.
